Announcing the Knit Wrap Top Sew-Along

I'm super excited to announce that I'll be doing a sew-along here for the B6285 knit wrap top! I think this project is perfect for a sew-along because it's so wearable, no matter what your personal style. It goes well with high-waisted skirts and pants but also works as to layer over dresses or longer tops.

It's also a fairly quick project because there are only two pattern pieces! The top front and back are cut in one--no sleeve seams or shoulder seams even! And the finishing is minimal because the whole thing is self-lined. This avoids pesky knit hems.

If you think you'll participate, grab the pattern now! I'll post later this week about fabrics and other supplies. We'll start sewing the week of 11/23 and take it at a fairly leisurely pace.

In the meantime, let me know if you have questions! I do hope you'll participate!

  1. Gertie, since the top is self-lined, isn't it heavy?

    1. I don't find it to be excessively heavy, especially since it's a colder weather top. :)

  2. Sounds like fun! I've been wanting to make this top. I used to have a few knit wrap tops but they have all bit the dust.

  6. The crossing is high up, can this be adjusted to intersect so that the front piece comes below one breast?

    1. Hi Rosamond, you can always wear it more open (I have pics showing this that I'll post this week). I suppose you could also adjust the pattern so the neckline is lower, but just like any pattern changes it may take some trial and error.

  9. I just picked up the pattern and had a question about the blouse. It says "no provisions provided for above waist adjustment." What does that mean?

    1. That means that there's no line that indicates where you would cut to make the top longer or shorter. It's still possible to do, but there's no line indicated by Butterick. This is usually the case in patterns that have special design features that make length adjustments more complicated than just slashing and spreading.

  10. You are missing a large, no pun intended, audience by not making your patterns fit the larger over size 26 population. Love your designs, but I know they will not fit before I even look.

  11. Hi Gertie,
Would you say that this top would be a good project for a beginner? Thanks! Sarah

    1. I wouldn't make it as your first project, but if you have a few garments under your belt and are a little adventurous, this would be a good pick.

  13. I wish I had read this before I finished my top! Well, I guess that means I have to buy more fabric for the sew along (oh darn huh).
