These kits will make a slip and pair of panties up to a Butterick size 22 (which corresponds to bust/waist/hip measurements 44"--37"--46").
You can also buy your pattern in my shop, as it is not included in the kit.
New Plus Size/Tall Kits!
If you need to grade up the pattern or add length, I'm also offering plus/tall kits in red and fuchsia. These include an extra 1/2 yard of fabric and extra lace.
More Kits Coming Up . . .
I will probably offer more kits in lavender and black again, but I'm not sure when exactly that will happen. If you want to start sewing along on 4/1, I would buy one of the available colors rather than waiting. Update: I have 5 black kits and 7 lavender kits left! Buy now if you're interested!
Thank you all for the amazing response to the kits and the sew-along! Okay, back to cutting and packing . . .
That fuchsia is the matches my new hair color... Well hopefully there will still be some kits left when I have the money to buy one. Because I need that. I slip the same color as my hair. Yes. :D
ReplyDeleteI was clearly so awestruck my the color matching that I lost the ability to type correctly. Oh the typos... -_-U
Deleteconsider stocking black and nude please!
ReplyDeleteI just relisted a few in black!
DeleteMy bust is a 34GG. Will this pattern work for me?
ReplyDeleteThe pattern goes up to a D cup, and knits are pretty forgiving. You'll have to do some adjusting, but hopefully not too much.
DeleteOooh, I love kits! Nude is better for me, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Gertie,
ReplyDeleteWill you possibly be doing another sew along for this project? I am a beginning sewer and would love to participate but my sewing machine will be on the back of a truck moving from Kansas to Indiana on April 1st. Also, my bust is larger than usual as well (36JJ) will there be enough fabric in the regular kit for me?
Hi Juli, you can access the sew-along anytime. It will live on my blog so you can start whenever you want. You will most likely be okay with a regular size kit. What is your pattern size?
DeleteThank you for the information Gertie. I always get the largest pattern size and then try to adjust it up for the bust and down for the rest. Very, very beginner - so some times I have better luck with this than others - but I learn something every time. Occasionally I learn what to do, but more often than not I learn what not to do! I'm thinking that if I keep the bust a little smaller on this so it might give me a little bit of support due to the stretchiness of the knit, which would make it an excellent nightie. But, like everything else I'm doing at the moment, this will be an experiment to give me reference for my future "real" projects. You have been such a great inspiration! j.
DeleteYou might have addressed this in a earlier blog but as I'm getting ready to travel and won't be back til the day before the sew-a-long, what kind of thread do we need for a sewing machine and / or serger? Cotton, nylon, ???? Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteHi! You'll want all-purpose poly thread. Don't forget stretch needles for your machine. I'll be showing all the steps on a regular sewing machine, but you could also use your serger for the seams if you like.
DeleteAny chance of a darker than lavender purple kit -about the same colour as your (and my) hair? I would be interested in buying one as I don't have a purple slip/nightie yet.
ReplyDeleteThe red and black is gorgeous for a real retro glam look. My order is in, I can't wait, this will be fun! Thank you for being so inspiring and driven!
ReplyDeleteHave you been on an Ozmates tour in the last year or so? We would love to hear about your adventures!

Just snatched up a red kit. I am sooo looking forward to learning how to sew lingerie. As you put together the sew along, would you please include how to make a SBA? I have seen so many so-called SBA tutorials where all they basically say is "do an FBA in reverse." Not helpful :( I could use a view pictures and the steps lined out.
ReplyDeleteJust thought you'd like to know, they're making "historical coats" on the great british sewing bee right now, and one of the contestants (Lynda) is making your butterick coat pattern! Katherine
ReplyDeleteYes, and Lynda's coat made it to garment of the week!! Congratulations to her and to you :-). I so would love to own that coat (or be good enough to make one myself.... one day....).
ReplyDeleteTerrifically exciting to see your pattern sewn up on the Sewing Bee. They showed a glimpse of the coat pattern and I said to myself "That's Gertie's!" Then when the camera did a full shot, you could definitely see it was your pattern. And the coat that Lynda made from it was terrific--and in 6 hours! Just wonderful!

Vinay Dixit: Clearly, there are varying degrees of interest in buying or even fake products across various wealthy consumer segments as well as across product categories. Our research indicates that many consumers have deep desire for "real" (and very replica rolex expensive luxury goods) despite high availability of (cheap) fake goods. There is a difference though between some wealthy consumer segments who will not think to buy fake and those who will comfortably mix the two. For example, over 90% the segment disagree with buying fake watches and jewelry, whereas the figure is only 42% for the to Earth segment.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for this sew along!! I ordered my kit and pattern the other day in a rush between clients and I wasn't paying much attention, but now looking over the slip and undies--I am SOOOO excited!! :) Thank you for hosting, creating the kits, and for the wonderful pattern. this will be right in time for a weekend get away with the hubbee! :)
ReplyDeleteSpotted on great British sewing bee this week - your pattern butterick 5824! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAiiee! Bekky beat me to it -- I just saw that Linda is making YOUR COAT on the Great British Sewing Bee.
ReplyDeleteOMG, Gertie, I'm watching the new series of great British sewing bee, and in one episode they have to make a coat from a vintage or retro pattern, and one of them has chosen YOUR pattern that you did the sew-along for!! Did you know?
