As you may recall, I released my first lingerie pattern recently! It's Butterick 6031, and it includes patterns for a slip, camisole in 2 lengths, and panties.
I spent some time yesterday whipping up a a version to show you. It took me a little over an hour to sew--instant gratification! Plus it's all done on a regular sewing machine, no serger required.
I'm pleased to announce that I'll be hosting a sew-along here with detailed sewing help for the slip. I'll work on setting up a schedule; I thought we could start sewing in about a month. This will give you plenty of time to gather supplies.
Speaking of supplies! I've been on a mission to put together slip making kits to sell in my Etsy shop. One of the most frustrating aspects of sewing lingerie is just hunting down the supplies--the rings, sliders, elastics, stretch lace, and the appropriate fabric. Finding them all in one place, in coordinated colors is close to impossible. It's enough to make anyone throw in the towel!
That's why I'm putting together kits with everything you need to sew a slip and a pair of panties. They're available for pre-order in my shop right now. All orders received this week will be packaged this weekend and shipped out early next week.
Kits are currently available in:
1) black fabric with white lace and pink bows
2) lavender fabric with white lace and white bows
3) all white
The kits include micro jersey fabric (poly/spandex blend), wide stretch lace for the slip/panties trim, narrow lace for the straps, a set of rings and sliders, 1/8" elastic to stabilize the neckline, picot elastic for the slip upper back, and two vintage-y bows with flowers.
The micro jersey is amazingly silky and drapey. I've been super busy sourcing the materials, and I'm so happy with how the kits are shaping up.
In time, I'll be offering kits in more colors, including some hand-dyed options. More to come!
UPDATE: Wow, the response to the kits has been overwhelming! Due to popular demand, I'm now offering the pattern in my Etsy shop. Shipping for the pattern is free in the US, and free worldwide if shipped with a kit. If you've already ordered a kit and want the pattern, please place a new order and make a note that you've already ordered a kit. I also have a new color available: canary yellow with white lace!
Because I'm now backordered on some supplies, shipping for new orders will be in 10-14 days. Thanks everyone!
I just picked up this pattern yesterday! Excited for the sew along and I'll have to check out those kits!
ReplyDeleteI'll probably wait a bit since I've got several projects cued at the moment but the kits look great. Just to put in a plug though I'd love pink in any shade.
ReplyDeleteoh and when I was buying this pattern, I was excited to get your other new release 6019 and saw that it only went up to 20 as opposed to 24? Unfortunately I'm a 22. IDK if you have any sway with those kind of things at butterick, but it'd be really cool if they could try and get your patterns up to the normal size 24 range.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! Do you know how long it takes for your items to shop to Europe? I am Dutch and would love to sew along in real time :) Greetings from the Netherlands, I am so inspired by your blog!
ReplyDeleteGertie, as a bra maker, it occurs to me that many of the supplies you are looking for are similar to those used in bra making. Check out this awesome site in Canada-bra-makerssupply.com! The products are excellent and the shipping is quick.

ReplyDeleteGreat tip. Thanks
DeleteHI Gertie! Maybe a silly question but I assume there's enough fabric to make the size 22 slip in the kit right?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
On FB Gertie says that there is enough fabric for 22!
DeleteNewish reader, first time commenter. What a fun idea for a sew-along project! I've been meaning to pick up the pattern. Guess I better get to it!
ReplyDeleteYay! I jsut bought my kit!
ReplyDeleteSuper excited!!
ReplyDeleteI am excited, bought the pattern and will check my stash of elastic lace to see what I need. Looking forward to a fun sew and adding something pretty for underneath my garments.
ReplyDeleteWill you be able to help modify the pattern for larger cup sizes? I would LOVE to make this, but I'm a G cup...
ReplyDeleteI just bought a kit. Thanks for offering this sew along! The kits are super useful because it's hard to know exactly what the right fabric is and where to find it. I don't normally sew with knits, but this pattern makes me want to try. I also love the colors featured on the Butterick site for the pattern itself.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning to do FBA instructions for this pattern? I've always liked slips that look like this, but can never find one that fits my bust.
ReplyDeleteYay! Just got my kit, now to hunt down the pattern. Awesome idea Gertie.
ReplyDeleteI second the requests for Full Bust Adjustment help. I'm super excited for this sew-along and the availability of the kit, but MUST HAVE the FBA to avoid everything looking like maternity wear. :)

DeleteThis is great! I wasn't really planning on doing the sew along before, but I think with these kits I will! I have always wanted to sew my own underwear and I do love slips. I think I will wait to see the other color options before buying one though.
ReplyDeleteYour slip looks so lovely. I will defo be joining in. I was recently diagnosed with a formaldehyde allergy so I'll be sourcing formaldehyde free products and making all my own undies from now on :)
ReplyDeleteI have to wait till it's released here in NZ; went to the fabric shop a week or so back and we're still using the old books and the new patterns aren't in yet :(
ReplyDeleteI just ordered a kit, I'm so excited about it and the sewalong!!! Hopefully the kit will be here in Germany when the sewalong starts. Thank you so much for both, what a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteGetting this pattern Gertie - love it! I wear underwire bras which tend to not have such a long life because the underwires break. I salvage all of the hardware from my old bras - the sliders, rings, unbroken underwire, and sometimes even the elastic & save them for new projects.
ReplyDeleteI bought mine, I bought mine... I am impatient to do my first lingerie... I just hope it will arrive before the start of the
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I can't wait for my kit to arrive!
ReplyDeleteWould love to purchase a kit if it was offered in silk or natural fiber jersey. One of the reasons I am learning to make my own undergarments is to avoid polyester fabric. I know many like it but another options would be fantastic - thank you and love the pattern!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how slippery this fabric is. When I need to wear a slip it's usually to keep my dress from sticking to my tights. The micro jersey doesn't look like it's the right fabric for that job, but it's hard to say without feeling it.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! I love a slip.
ReplyDeleteis it possible you could go over how to grade the pattern to a bigger size??? I understand if you cant but I'd love to make this!!! I've been hunting to buy nighties but have failed I would love to sew some using your pattern
ReplyDeleteI'm in! and just ordered your kit, it's such a good idea for lazy shoppers like me :)
ReplyDeleteI would be interested, however, I would like to know if you will be discussing fit. I tried to make a slip a few years ago and the fit was awful.
ReplyDeleteMarie
Hot pink with turquoise or orange would be loverly!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I want to try this pattern! I love that aqua lace, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou've come so far Gertie you really have. My mum and I have been looking for a lingerie pattern and this one is perfect! I love the design and the decoration you have used. This would look great in so many colours! XxxX http:thesecondhandrose.blogspot.co.uk
ReplyDeleteI've never sewn my own slip, thought about it many times lol! but have yet to step into that realm, I may have to just give this a try !
ReplyDeleteHelen
I've had this pattern in my stash for a while! Now-I just want to know if you can guarantee that it will look as good on me as it does on your dress form!
