Tons of New Fabrics in the Shop (Plus Coupon!)

Well, readers, the response to my fabric shop experiment has been excellent. I've been stocking garment fabrics with a vintage flair in my Etsy shop to see if there was interest, and the answer is YES. There is interest. So I took the money I made and bought a ton of new fabric, which I've just listed. Here's a preview:

Now that I have all this fabric, I'd love to start sending it out to good homes. Won't you please adopt some fabric today? I'm giving 10% off on everything all weekend, until Monday. Use the code: ROSESGALORE.

Thanks so much for your support of the shop! My uncanny radar for rose prints is finally being put to good use, thanks to you.

  1. Gah - just ordered but didn't put the coupon in. Heyho, I'm a twit! Great fabrics, Gertie, thanks so much for sourcing them. And, any more border prints you find, keep 'em coming. Can't find them in my neck of the woods.

  2. I'm trying to order the pink rose but it is not giving me an option to select the yards. Is there only 1 yd available.

    1. I sent you a message on Facebook--unfortunately that fabric sold out really quickly. I was only able to get a few yards, sadly. Don't worry, I'll look for more like it!

  3. I am interested in purchasing, but don't use PayPal. I sent an inquiry to your gertie [at] blogforbettersewing [dot] com email address. If you could get back to me, I would really appreciate it ^.^

  4. Gertie, this is NOT fair... ;-) Now that I ordered you put again so many lovely rose fabrics in your shop! Seriously, I will go on my vacation without buyinf anything just to have some money left to buy more fabrics when I'm back. I love each and everyone of them, seriously. I am sure you will discover more treasures to offer to us. Thanks, you're amazing!

  5. Stop it right now young lady! Tempting me with florals while it's the middle of winter here is just mean.

Still..... I could start sewing for summer...

  6. I have enjoyed reading this blog but I have to speak up here. At least one of the fabrics in the Etsy shop that is listed at $10/yd I have seen on the $2 shelf at Walmart. Fellow readers-shop around!

    1. Makes me wonder what Walmart bought it for then--a couple cents a yard? Because I definitely paid more than $2 a yard for it . . . Walmart is handy but I find some of their pricing and sourcing a little shady . . .

    2. Also, just wanted to say I totally understand anyone shopping at Walmart (or wherever they want!). Only wanted to point out that, as a tiny business, I don't get the same wholesale prices that Walmart does and my retail prices reflect that. Okay, that is all! Thanks for your comment. :)

  7. I'm not a huge floral fan, but the black eyelet is just gorgeous - I couldn't help myself and had to have some :-) The wee discount just sweetened the deal!

  8. It is not like me to comment when I'm annoyed, I'm usually one to let things slide but I have to speak up here.

Rebecca, yes these fabrics may be available cheaper in other places but what Gertie has done is bring vintage-style fabrics together in one place, making it easier for us to find them. Based on the comments from some other people, these fabrics just aren't available in their locale. No-one is being forced to buy from Gertie & of course, if you have the time and product available to you, you can shop around. Not everyone has a Walmart near to them though.

You say you have enjoyed reading this blog. Well then, think about the value and worth of all the advice/training/help/inspiration/etc that Gertie has provided for free to us all. I, for one, do not begrudge her making a tidy profit on something I would find difficult and time-consuming to source myself. I, for one, am just so grateful for all the free, honest and helpful information she has provided to anyone who wants it.

    Thanks Gertie. Vohn x

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words! Yes, that is exactly what I was going for--a curated collection of vintage-inspired fabrics in one shop. Anyway, I really appreciate your comment--and of course, totally support readers who want to find fabric elsewhere! It's all good, as they say. :)

    2. Vohn x, My comment was not critical nor rude, but informative. You say that I need to "think about the value and worth of all the advice/training/help/inspiration/etc that Gertie has provided for free to us all." Are you implying that I should be so grateful towards bloggers for sharing information that I forfeit my right to also share information? Bloggers make money through ads and other resources. You patronize a business when you view a blog. To think that any blogger is not a savvy, business-minded entrepreneur would be an insult. I do not begrudge Gertie nor any other blogger their ability to earn a living by sharing their passions and creativity, but rather admire their hard work.

    3. I feel the need to interject. I've bought one of these fabrics in question from the $2 rack and it wasn't very good quality. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a test print or what not. I'm sure that Gertie's is of a better stock than what I got because I can't see her buying it to sale if hers is anything like mine.

  9. I'd like to second Vohn's comment, only to add that it's not just about the choice but also the quality. I'm in the UK and buy a lot of fabric online from the US. That means some good surprises, but also some bad.

Last week I bought some fabric from Gertie's store - fabric I'd seen and liked elsewhere but hadn't bought because I wasn't sure it would work for clothing (my fear was - feedsack print + quilting fabric = all a bit too house-dressy). Seeing it in Gertie's shop, I knew it would be fine and immediately snapped some up. The fabric arrived this morning, and it exceeds expectations. It's a beautiful poplin which will be wonderful to sew with and look fab as a dress. And it cost no more than what others were selling it for.

As a fellow rose-print aficionado I can admire the choice of fabrics, but the biggie for me is the extra vetting process they've been through. If Gertie is selling a fabric, I know it'll be appropriate for clothing, taking the risk of a (bad) surprise out of the equation when it arrives at the other end!

  10. Oh my gosh Rebecca, no I'm certainly not saying you shouldn't share your information. It felt to me that you were implying that Gertie was scamming us and were forgetting all the added value she gives that a superstore does not. I'm so sorry I misunderstood your intent.

Thanks for your comments; I read each and every one! xo Gertie
