Hoppy Halloween!
Well, here's Rosie, dressed up as a strung-out bunny. She's not too fond of wearing her costume, but we bribed her with lots of treats to get a few shots. I used Simplicity 2827 as a starting point, but had to make some big changes for Rosie's tiny flat head.
First of all, a hood was never going to work.
The pattern's hood was round, like a little baby head. I ended up detaching the hood from the little coat and making a headband-like piece that ties under her chin. It has earholes to keep it on. The only problem is that when she's all strung-out, she puts her ears back, causing the headband to fall off.
Off course, she needed a little cottontail.
I lengthened the pattern's ears and added millinery wire to get them to stand up.
Anyway, that's a dog in a bunny costume.
More importantly, we are all safe and sound post-hurricane. We were very lucky in our area. The winds were insane--it sounded like a mack truck was on our porch and a jetliner was flying overhead. The lights flickered off a few times, but we held on to our power. The huge tree that hangs over our backyard has weathered the storm, amazingly. A shutter and some siding flew off the house, but that's easily fixed. The next day, walking Rosie across the street, we came across a live power line pinned down by a fallen tree, buzzing ominously on the ground. Scary. It was repaired in record time, however!
The damage in Manhattan is certainly sobering. Both FIT (where I study) and The Sewing Studio (where I teach) are still without power. I'm sending good thoughts out to you all, and hoping you are weathering the aftermath.
And a Happy Halloween to you all!
P.S. I finished my witch-themed ballgown from Vogue's New Book for Better Sewing; pictures to come later on.

All my best wishes to you and those who continue to recover from Sandi. For us up here in Southern coastal Maine, it was mostly about the wind. We lost power for 30 hours, and are soooo grateful to have it back.
ReplyDeleteYour dog in a bunny costume is a sign that you haven't lost your sense of humor. (Although I'm not so sure about Rosie.)
Hoppy Halloween to you too.
Rosie makes an adorable bunny. Getting dogs to wear headpieces is quite the challenge, but it looks like she was a good sport, mostly. :-D
ReplyDeleteThis doggie costume is hilarious! Happy Halloween and glad that you weathered the storm safe & sound x
ReplyDeleteSo glad you weathered Sandy without major damage or inconvenience. Oh my gosh. That little bunny is so cute! I'm a little jealous of all the cute small dog costumes and patterns. My dog is 100lbs and we couldn't find anything so I had to make her a tutu and we'll put on some wings tonight. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you'r all safe and sound. We're still feeling the after effects up here. It'll be a good year for an extra woolly Halloween layer. Can't wait to see the dress!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to you and yours.
I'm glad to hear you and yours are okay!! Rosie is perfect in the bunny costume, and I'm excited to see your ballgown later!
ReplyDeleteGertie that is fantastic - and the flat head adaptation only makes me want one for my cat even more!
ReplyDeleteReally glad you survived Sandy.
So happy to hear all is well with you. This is why I enjoy reading your blog, your healthy positive attitude. And Rosie's costume cracked me up! ;). Happy Halloween!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you and your whole family are OK after Sandy's attack. Happy Halloween, indeed!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are all ok,
ReplyDeleteNext time- sheep in wolf's clothing?? Or Rabbit dressed as dog?
Super cute! Glad you guys are safe. Still no power or water at my house!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to know you are okay! I have been horrified watching the coverage of all the damage.
ReplyDeleteYour Rosie is so cute I just want to grab her and squeeze her! One of my dogs loves wearing outfits and costumes and the other one hates it, so you can guess who gets the most excited about Halloween!
Good to hear that you're ok Gertie.
ReplyDeleteThat storm looked horrific from the pictures we got over here in Europe. Almost a tsunami.
Glad to hear you are well and safe, Rosie is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteSo relieved to hear you are okay. I've been sitting on "pins and needles" hoping you were okay. Your dog is adorable.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you are OK, did a wee victory dance when I read your post!
ReplyDeleteLove Rosie's bunny ears, she looks adorable. Is she aware that she can demand more royalties (treats) for each viewing her pictures get? I'll be sending her an email later!!!
Linda xx
If all of us down in the Gulf Coast can recover after all of our hurricanes the North East should be fine. It may not seem like it now, but things like this seem to wash out a lot of bad which gets replaced with good.
ReplyDeleteBTW your Rosie looks a lot like my Rosa, even the "I don't like this" expression.
Thanks for the update. So glad you are safe and things are good with you. Your dog looks cute and is adorable. You guys are a great team.
ReplyDeletePS You looked fabulous in that recent skirt that you posted; it was so flattering on you! Then you posted about losing weight. Hadn't noticed that, but you are looking terrific.

Good that you're safe - and with power even!
ReplyDeleteThat poor poor dog. It's abuse I tell you - look at her face. LOL We should have a "pathetic dog" contest. I'm pretty sure mine would win as he practices all the time, but yours is definitely in the running with her costume.
AHHHH, Gertie she is SO CUTE!! I really should have made something for Lucille. Glad you guys weathered the storm and are all okay!
ReplyDeleteAh, she's adorable and quite a trooper! I have yet to try dressing my two pups for Halloween. Glad to hear you made it through the storm unscathed. Just heard from my brother tonight who lives in Manhattan and so relieved that he's safe! Two days of not hearing from him were scary!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you all are okay. Your dog is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable, I absolutely love it.

I love, love your witch outfit, that is just perfect : ) Great job! And the bunny suit is adorable too. I'm glad to hear you are fine and have weathered the storm, it's hard to beleive what has happened in NYC.
ReplyDeleteHello Gertie, so glad you are all safe and well after that terrible storm. As for Rosie in costume - well, least said the better; she's lucky Halloween comes around only once a year!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
I'm a new follower! I was sick one day last week and went back to look at every single one of your posts in one day. Love this blog and your style and I can't wait to get your book!
ReplyDeleteRight now I refashion thrift store cloths for sewing practice and I'm hoping to get into sewing more patterns real soon. You are such a inspiration to me!
