Hello, lovely readers! I just received a huge box of
my book from my publisher, and I want to put the extra copies to good use. I know a lot of people are under tight budgets these days, so I want to do a giveaway targeted specifically toward people who can't afford to buy the book right now. If you're a student, unemployed, underemployed, a new mom, saving for buying a house . . . whatever the case is--it's none of my business, quite frankly! But I want to make sure that folks who want a copy have a way of getting it. I know library wait lists can be long and frustrating.

ReplyDeleteI just ordered my copy yesterday. I had to wait for my tax refund (which happens at a different time of year in Australia) and pay all my bills first. Dang. Oh well looking forward to getting my hands on it.
ReplyDeleteI have often wondered why the US does it in April. Did someone just pick a random date out of a hat?
Their tax year is based on a calendar year which means everyone has four months to do their tax. Much like in Au where most people need to lodge thier return by the end of Oct.

But it seems to me from over here that there are very real consequences in the US for not getting your tax in on time.
DeleteIn Australia the tax office isn't going to chase you down unless you owe them money and for most people that never happens.

As a man, I won't be able to use the patterns (lucky the woman who ends up with my copy years from now) - but love the technique part. Not sure if you'll actually read my bit - but would love any suggestions on using your book with mens patterns. Already purchased a suit pattern to follow (as close as I can) with your jacket pattern. Again, you wrote a wonderful book. Thanks for helping my sewing to get to the next level.

ReplyDeleteHi Gertie, I have two lovely ideas, one copy for the gorgeous S, who works part-time at The Fabric Store Newstead, Brisbane. S has a passion for sewing for herself and others and she has the most charming vintage style. She's also a mother to two small boys. Her customer service in the store is outstanding and you just love her the second you meet her! I could see your book on the counter for a wee while and then lovely S could take it home! S has a blog cirquedubebe, if you want to look at it in spare moment! My next idea is a copy for my chalkface's library! I have enjoyed showing your blog on the data projector many times and your image really gets positive attention! I was always going on about Gertie this and that during last term. And guess what my class has the Bernina 1010 sewing machine! Same as yours!! That was a funny moment when I flashed up your machine image post and told the workers we were in good company! Ps in Australia will pay for postage! Xx

ReplyDeleteI have a question, since I can't find the answer in the book: are the sewing allowances included in the patterns? I'm from Europe and I'm used to add them by myself, but I know that in the USA they're often already included. I'm a bit confused!
They are already included! The allowance is 5/8", which I believe translates to 1.5 cm. But please do measure the flat pattern first (as I recommend in the fitting chapter). Some are finding the patterns more close-fitting than they would normally wear.
