Well, this was a fun little project! This is one of the quickest things I've sewn in recent memory. Just a simple LBD made from stretch cotton jacquard.
I tried to pose on the deck with my hat box, but apparently there
is such a thing as too much natural light. Who knew?!
So I took her upstairs to the new sewing room (!). Here she is with her new necklace, wearing a little crinoline for fluff. On her new stenciled floor. (And yes! I totally have a floor post planned.)
Simple scoop back (with lapped zipper) and princess seam pockets.
And voila! This was a fun pattern and the size 14 fit perfectly right out of the envelope. I did add an inch to the waist length though.
And like pretty much everything else, it looks great with my green clogs. (My mother disagrees with the notion that these shoes go with everything, can you believe it?!)
Very good, the dress is really nice on you. I think newer patterns can be easier to work with than vintage ones, I find.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect dress up/dress down frock. Very elegant in black, much more grown-up than the prints they used to illustrate it. A great reminder to 'see past the envelope'!

ReplyDeleteLooks great! size 14 seems like it would be too big for you. I am new to sewing and am wondering if you measure and follow according to the pattern label? When I've done this before , things still come out way too big. Thanks!

Although I don't like to criticize anyone on the basis of their personal taste, your mother is wrong. Those shoes DO go with everything -- just as trees, shrubs and grass never clash with any other colors.

ReplyDeleteI love it! Yes, mother sometimes think that our tastes are off. I was lucky when my mom and grandmother liked my purple Clarks Purse shoes. I really didn't think they would. Not that I care.

Love your dress Gertie! I bought the same pattern on your suggestion! I'm just not a quick as you are at getting it sewn up. I have a little adjustment in the bust area then I'll be on my way. I agree that green goes with everything. My garden has every color flower and they all match the lawn. We already know that black goes with everything. So, enjoy the green shoes. The dress is lovely.

Thanks, friends! On the sizing issue: my measurements actually put me at a size 16, but I always size down to a 14 in the bodice because there's so much ease in some patterns. This one has a lot--I think 3" of ease!

ReplyDeleteGreen shoes DO go with everything! I used to have a pair of kelly green Doc Martens that I wore with all kinds of things. Love the dress, especially the back neckline - a scoop like that would show off my tattoo nicely.

I hope you find imitation flattering because I've now added a lbd of this ilk to my sewing list. Although, I'll be using an embroidered cotton voile (that's been languishing in my stash for several years now) and a vintage 50's pattern that I've made into a TnT one. I'm just debating between sleeves or no sleeves....hmmm.
