Hi from Rehoboth Beach

Hello, readers! I thought I'd do a quick update from my holiday at the beach. My family and I are currently in Delaware (my home state!) in a rented house right on the beach. I'm getting a bit of sewing done, finishing the hand sewing that needs to be completed for my next Craftsy course. I leave to film it next Wednesday--yikes!

There have been lots of walks on the beach and boardwalk with the family. Here's the whole gang on Christmas day.

We met a bunch of greyhounds, and they are now my absolute favorite kind of dog.

This is me and Luke; we're in love.

My brother, Bryan.

I found out I'm going to be an aunt! Bryan and his wife Amanda are with fetus!

I'm already thinking of ways Aunt Gertie can corrupt the little one.

My mom made me this amazing hat.

Here she is, looking adorable in a reindeer sweater.

I've been wearing my new blue coat all week.

Me and my dad. As you can see, I got very good genes on both sides.

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season! I'm on a little break from regular blogging, but I'll be back with more posts (and a tutorial!) next week.

  1. Looks awesome. As a greyhound owner I've always wanted to go to Delaware as the biggest greyhound gathering happens at Dewey Beach every year. Seeems appropriate that you met & fell in love with a greyhound in Delaware.

My two (Dick & Harriett) are wonderful sewing companions. They're very helpful in the work room and they keep an eye on me to make sure my work is up to par. :-)

    Happy New Year!

  3. What a beautiful family and great photos! Thank you so much for sharing them.
We love greyhounds! Here in Phoenix they have a long and not-so-happy history, but thankfully the greyhound societies and adoption agencies do a great business as these dogs are the most wonderful companions.
    Happy New Year to you!

  7. I LOVE greyhounds. Intelligent, loyal and affectionate. Sadly neglected in some parts of the world. Oh, if only I could have a dog... Your coat looks beautiful and your family looks so happy.

  9. Gertie! I didn't know you were from Delaware. What part are you from? I'm a Newark High School and University of Delaware grad (with a BS in Apparel Design) and a regular reader of yours! I love that we have a Delaware connection. Happy New Year to you and yours!

  12. I've heard that greyhounds are adorable creatures whose sole purpose in life is to become a couch potato, but that they will run after smaller animals, so a leash is a Good Thing ;) Such happiness, a niece/nephew to be. Remember, one of the paths to immortality is to raise your niece/nephew/grandchildren (in my instance) in your own image!

  18. That hat is beautiful!

I love greyhounds and have always wanted one. They are such gentle dogs... and often couch potatoes too! If you're able, you should look into rescuing a former racing hound.

    Happy New Year!

  21. "Bryan and his wife Amanda are with fetus!" Way to suck the joy out of that news with your phraseology. Is there a history of miscarriage making everyone clinically distance themselves from the child?

  25. Greyhounds are such lovely dogs!
My parents have a grey they got from one of the ex-racing adoption organisations in Aus. Not all that bright, but she's the sweetest couch potato you'll ever meet.

I second the person up above who suggested resuing an ex-racer. For a dog that's all legs, they're couch potatos.

Also, that blue coat is spectacular! Happy new Year!

  26. You'll have a great time making vintage baby clothes! This romper is adorable:

One thing though (people who don't have kids always forget this especially for infants 7 toddlers) make sure the age/size of the clothes of the matches the season. When my daughters were young a few people gave us winter 6 month baby clothes when they were actually age 6 months in the summer! So the clothes were too small when summer came around.

  27. I didn't know you were from Delaware! That makes you even more fun! (I've lived here my entire life, somewhat in the Newark area, and have many happy summer memories of Rehoboth.)

Hope you enjoy your beachy holiday!

  28. Oh, fellow Delawareans! Yay! I'm from Hockessin, and graduated from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington.

Dawn s, don't worry, my family has a good sense of humor. :)

  30. What lovely pics. And greyhounds are indeed the best dogs ever. We had a couple as we grew up, a brother and sister, and they are the sweetest, most lovely natured animals. Both beautiful and a bit goofy, the fastest couch potatoes in the world, and tell them what to do and they will do exactly as they please... Gorgeous. If only my husband weren't allergic, I'd own one in a flash!
