Hey friends! I'm filming an online course at The Sewing Studio today through Wednesday--with the help of my new (to me) Wolf dress form! The topic is making a retro boned-bodice dress and I can't wait to share it with you.
Posting around here will be light until my life returns to normal . . . well, as normal as it ever was.
What's going on in your world this week?
Hi Gertie,
ReplyDeleteI called this school several times and asked to sign up for a class with you. I haven't gotten any response back. When are you teaching, would love to sign up for a clas with you.

I am sewing, building a barn, teaching a sewing student, deconstructing a pool and eagerly awaiting each and every one of your blog posts. :) have fun filming!
ReplyDeleteSewing swimwear! Along with all of the other crazyness in my life! How would your followers have access to this online class you are doing?
ReplyDeleteHee hee, Abby Normal! I quote that all the time. This week I'm working on sewing a sundress and knitting a summery yellow top. And going to work and junk like that, too. Oh, and tomorrow I get to have a rare lunch with my BFF!
ReplyDeleteI have finally finished posting on my Chanel jacket class, and finished the jacket! This week is an LBD week - I need one urgently for office; your eyelet dress was so inspiring, that i went and bought a piece of black eyelet for those more glamourous summer days!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy filming!

ReplyDeleteI am painting my living room, getting ready to teach my adult's oil painting and drawing classes, putting the finishing touches on 2 dresses and setting up the muslin for my next flirty dress.
ReplyDeleteHey everyone! Does anyone use Burda magazine patterns? Does anyone have a tip on tracing the patterns? They have some adorable 50's inspired dresses. Please send me your hints.
Hope everything goes well. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI am busy making a baby and very tired and out of breath. I have about ten weeks left to go. Trying to stay cool. It has been over 100 degrees. I'm hoping to do some sewing soon, though. I need to finish up a sundress for my daughter and a shirt for my son and then make some things for myself. I've have been making lots of hula hoops for friends lately. Two weeks ago, I got an order for 14 hoops. I've made over 30 so far. They're really fun to decorate. I've built a big hooping group in my area so that we can have hooping parties together. We've had two parties so far. What a blast.
Hope everything goes well. Have fun.
Making clothes for the little ones, making a birthday present for my SIL, did my grandma's grocery shopping, got all the rest of the stuff for the garden, and this week, I'm putting in a big flower garden....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy filming...just looked at your blog for the first time....and love it....
ReplyDeleteLove the dress form, and I can't wait to see your online class updates.
ReplyDeleteMy world is awaiting my new Brother 1034D serger. I have been sewing for over 20 yrs, and I've never used a serger, can you believe that?
Enjoy the filming!
Ending one consulting job, continuing running the landscaping business I own with my husband, general housewife duties of baking bread, making cookies, cleaning, and I am about to pick up my 7 yo daughter from second to last day of school. On Wednesday I am going to make some granny underwear and then look over my stash of patterns and plan the next project.
ReplyDeleteGertie...I had to back stalk your blog to find the absolutely awesome site you shared that makes awesome retro dresses and playsuits!
ReplyDeletetook me awhile, but I found it...and today I found a pattern for a playsuit.
So I'll be sewing up a storm of playsuits for me and my girls this week (and staying out of the 98 degree heat + 80% humidity outside)!
I've been altering a silver dress (circa 1980's) to be worn at a wedding this weekend. You're welcome to check it out on my blog: cardboardcrafter.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI am really coveting that gorgeous dress form right now. Mine is worn out and wobbly. I have to push it up against something so it doesn't fall over when I pin into it.
ReplyDeleteIn my world I'm trying to keep my vegetable garden alive, while staying inside as much as possible to avoid the extreme heat. On the sewing front, I'm using up small pieces in the stash, hoping to open up a bit more workspace. Just now finishing a boxy top to go with a tablecloth skirt (yesterday's project).
I look forward to seeing more of your posts when things return to normalish again.
Retro boned-bodice dress as in a Shaheen inspired dress???? I REALLY hope so!
ReplyDeleteYOU GO GIRL GERTIE!!!!
I cant wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteHi Gertie! Hey, is it a Wolf custom form, to your measurements? I really want one, but I have to save and save for it. Can you tell us details in some future post?
ReplyDeleteKrista, I'm sorry to hear that! I'm putting together a mailing list to let people know about my classes.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely let you all know about the online class! It will be available from craftsy.com, for the low price of $30! And yes, it IS a Shaheen-inspired dress! More to come on all those fronts.
I'll also write more about the dress form. She's not custom, but a used form one that I'll pad out a bit.
Trudy, hang in there!
Drafting a sloper, washing the foothills of a mountain of laundry (no dryer so I can only wash as much as I have room to hang! hah!)Also trying to figure out what the most productive things I could put on our "Must be done every day before we..." list for the summer with kids. I realized that several things including brushing the kids teeth are based on heading out to catch the school bus....which we won't be doing all summer of course. sigh! I am thinking I will add yoga to the tooth brushing, and a little room cleaning? maybe? hehe k.
ReplyDeleteVery interested in your sewing space. Can't wait to see the video class and also how to pad up the Wolf dress form.
ReplyDeleteNever mind what it's called, where can I sign up? :)
ReplyDeleteDid anyone see the dress Emma Stone wore to the MTV awards? The lace is to die for.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gertie, for putting on your mailing list, I bookmarked the crafty site in anticipation of your class. Do you know if it will play on an iPad or do I need a laptop?
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope "Abby Normal" is your dressform's name...
ReplyDeleteStill having computer struggles, so my 3,000 Route 66 photos still wait. (Argh.) But I've done lots of painting in the house, am working on a skirt, made new covers for my throw pillows, fixed a dress I ought to have fixed ages ago, am taking in another dress, and will be making a sewing machine cozy. Nothing like productivity!
This week I'm resting after my best friend's wedding, for which I made my dress (50s inspired of course) the weeks before. Maybe sewing something fun and simple, if I manage to do anything of my evenings despite the cold I caught. I'd like to update my blog too, I have many things to share!
ReplyDeleteA retro boned-bodice dress sounds great! Have fun filming. :)
I'm doing finishing work on three handknit cardigans (2 for summer, 1 for fall) & prepping for a chemistry final.
