Obviously, I had to go with a Marc Jacobs today, right? While it was tempting to post something from his Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 collection (which is legendary in its 50s-inspiredness), I decided to feature this more recent charmer. From Mr. Jacobs's Resort 2011 show, this scalloped organza number is a mocha and cream delicacy.
I think the real triumph here is the combination of fabrics. I hope the remnants end up in Mood someday soon. (Very wishful thinking, I know.)
Hailee Steinfeld wore this dress recently, and Red Carpet Fashion Awards (an excellent blog, by the way), noted that this version is a modified version of the original (on the left below):
While I agree that the more modest version is great for Hailee, there is something I love about the resort original. In the smaller proportions, it almost reminds me of a 50s beach playsuit. What do you think?
ADORE the short version! Anything that has a pin up vibe always wins me over. And I agree, the mix of fabrics really makes this special.
ReplyDeleteI also adore the shorter version and agree with you on the playsuit mentality. Scallops = love! They're my latest obsession and I'm glad you shared this dress on your blog. Thank you! It's such an adorable and girly dress, I would wear the original shorter version any day (if the weather starts cooperating).
ReplyDeleteI'm just delighted that he specifically made a modified version for Steinfeld. A clear recognition of age-appropriate dress--and it seems like so few designers are willing to adjust to the client.
ReplyDeleteWow this is really fabulous - personally, I like the longer version, but then, I'm not really a "spring chicken" anymore :(
ReplyDeleteThe scallops are incredible. Thanks, again for a great post,Gertie!
I'd love to see a version just between the two here - slightly shorter skirt, top slightly lower and more structured - a cocktail-dress silhouette!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the short dress is awesome - it has such great proportions! - but I also appreciate the longer version, especially since it was made for a younger actress.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I think I like the length of the first one but the top of the second.
ReplyDeleteI like both versions, one for daytime and one for the beach! Marc Jacobs' resort collections are my favorite because they're easier to visualize in a real wardrobe.
ReplyDelete*sigh* what gorgeous fabrics! I'll also be hoping the remnants make they're way around to Mood...
ReplyDeleteThe short one looks like it should be in an ad for anorexia and find the whole picture disturbing.
ReplyDeleteI like the neckline of the Hailee Steinfeld version more! I read this post in the morning, but I had to come back and comment because I JUST saw the dress being worn by a girl in a Payless commercial! lol
ReplyDeleteI love that dress far more than anything in the fall collection. The short version is my pick to click, and accessorized correctly, even someone (like me) who is old enough to be Haley Steinfeld's mom could wear it!
ReplyDeleteOoooooooo, aaaaahhhhhh. Isn't that beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh i love the scallops and polkadots! What a great combo.
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so divine! I love all the details... it's only in intricate designs like this that I see the value of designer goods.
ReplyDeleteEarly fashions are perfect and even today they are more attractive
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely stunning.Cheap Coats For Women A clear recognition of age-appropriate dress
