My mom (and dad) gave me the absolute perfect necklace for Christmas. How did she know? Mom-related sixth sense, I guess.
There are 16 rows of boning holding this baby up.
Evidently the dress code was actually "creative black tie." Yeah, I was waaaay overdressed. Whatever.
It's not quite right without glasses, is it?
More details on the pattern to come, if you're interested.
A big shout-out to Jeff, who planned and hosted this entire event while extremely sick. Everyone, now: feel better, Jeff!
Whackadoo! You look a bit Scarlett O'Hara!
ReplyDeleteDrop. Dead. Gorgeous. Wow!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! Love the dress. Many get-well wishes for Jeff.
ReplyDelete-Chedva
Beau-ti-ful! There are no other words! Get well wishes to Jeff!
ReplyDeleteWow! You look amazing! I bet everyone was asking "Where did you get your dress?" I'd love to see their faces when you told them it was beautifully hand-crafted by your lovely self :)
ReplyDeleteOh - and get well soon to Jeff!
ReplyDeleteWowsa that is one gorgous dress. Who cares if you were overdressed ;-p
ReplyDeleteThat colour is just perfect for you.
Tania
The color goes fabulously with your tattoos. It was well worth it to be overdressed!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love how the dress and your tattous work together, almost making it a sleeved dress =) I'm so impressed that you managed to make it in time, that was some fast sewing!
ReplyDeleteHope Jeff gets well soon.
You look stunning in that dress! It is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWho cares if you were overdressed... you look awesome! What a great color, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are looking Stunning! Care to do a post on boning?
ReplyDeleteWow!! You look gorgeous!!! All this time making the dress paid off- you look like a movie star!
ReplyDeleteReally love this the colour really suits you! I really need to get brave and start sewing for myself.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning - just the perfect shape and colour for you. You should wear it every day - stuff being overdressed :)
ReplyDeleteWow you truly look beyond amazing in that. The perfect colour and I love how you look in a strapless dress!
ReplyDeleteBravo.
WOWZA!!! You look so amazing, Gertie--that dress is just... (I'm at a loss for words) absolutely beautiful and stunning. Overdressed?! I'm sure you stole the spotlight! ;) Wow, it just looks amazing; can't wait to read some more details on construction and such. Give yourself a pat on the back--you did an top-rate job!
ReplyDeleteAnd hope Jeff feels better soon! ;)

You're a KNOCKOUT!
ReplyDeleteWOW - This dress is so gorgeous. And who cares if you were slightly overdressed, you look amazing, and I bet the other girls were wishing they had a dress half as lovely to wear ;)
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing! I love the bust wrap/bow detail, very nice. I hope people saw what you were wearing and felt ashamed at how underdressed they were :)
ReplyDeleteTalk to me Harry Winston, tell me all about it! Truly gorgeous, and like Casey I can't wait to hear some of your thoughts on construction, especially working with a satin. I only wish there was a picture with your parka accent!
ReplyDeleteI hope Jeff feels better soon.
You look so hot! Nice job Gertie! That color is fabulous on you.
ReplyDeleteNow I have picked my chin off the floor, I have but 1 word.
ReplyDeleteWOW-WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
That looks awesome with the tattoos! (I once got a dress code of "business elegant", threw me for a loop)
ReplyDeleteFeel better, Jeff!
A stunning dress! Great fit, texture and colour. You look amazing. What exactly is creative black tie? Perhaps your exposed tatoos with a classic black tie dress count as creative? Sort of classic with a twist.
ReplyDeleteStunning. And the dress works perfectly with your ink.
ReplyDelete~Sewjourner
It's always better to be overdress than under-dressed :) You look amazing in it!
ReplyDeleteYou may have been overdressed but, girl, you controlled that room! Wowsa!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful : ) Stunning color. Get better soon, Jeff!
ReplyDeleteVaVoom! The dress looks beautiful with your coloring. Your tats give kind of a bolero effect--very interesting! I do like you without glasses for this kind of glam look though, hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING - both the dress and you! Great job! Now fix Jeff some chicken soup...
ReplyDeleteYou look so elegant and the dress shows off your tatoos so well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, how do you have time to do anything?
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!! I'm working on a maroon satin gala dress, myself. I'm doubtful that it'll be quite as stunning as yours. And I'm definitely not brave enough for boning yet. Congrats on a job well done! (And hope Jeff feels better, too) :)
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! It turned out even better than I had imagined. Hope Jeff gets well very soon!
ReplyDeletegorgeous dress in a stunning color.
ReplyDeleteSo glamorous! You made a great choice, it looks very beautiful on you. Get well soon Jeff!
ReplyDeletePerfection! Beautiful is never 'overdressed.'
ReplyDeleteWho cares if you were overdressed? That dress is amazing and you look gorgeous in it!
ReplyDeletewow stunning love the bow detail x
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! I am in awe!!
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if you're more Ava Gardner or Rita Hayworth in Gilda, but that is definitely a Gilda-worthy gown. Great job!!! Now I understand what the secrecy was about in which pattern you chose (unless you told your peeps on Facebook and I missed it)
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that Jeff was sick but if seeing you in this dress didn't make him feel better I don't know what would! Wowza lady!
ReplyDeleteGreat adaptation of that pattern! I love it! It reminds me of the pick evening dress Marilyn Monroe wears in How to Marry a Millionaire.
Hope you both had a lot of fun at the event and get-well soon to Jeff!
Absolutely stunning, Gertie. You look amazing.
ReplyDeleteFeel better, Jeff.
That color is gorgeous on you!!! I love the dress. I would love to make a dress like that but I'd never have anywhere to wear it. So, I have to lust after yours, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! You're a knockout!
ReplyDeleteHope Jeff is feeling better. :)
Beautiful! That colour really suits you beautifully with your dark hair and eyes! Jewel Tones! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGet well Jeff! So nice to still see black tie do's happening...
Beautiful! Just Beautiful. Tell that boy I hope he gets well soon. Soups are not just folk remedies. Nutrients are far easier to absorb and of course when ill easier to eat.
ReplyDeleteMy fancy project was not quite as spectacular as yours but I will share: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=32267&id=100000941516003
Lovely! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHope Jeff feels better!
You look amazing! Absolutely stunning - much better than anything off the rack!
ReplyDeleteWhat a drop-dead gorgeous dress! You did a fantastic job. You say you were way overdressed, but I'll bet the others wished they were wearing that dress.
ReplyDeleteHoly Schmoly, that dress is AWESOME! You're right out of a movie from 1953! And feel better Jeff...
ReplyDeleteThe belt SO makes that dress. I love great finishing touches :)
ReplyDeleteDefinately packing some serious va va voom!! Simply stunning. Your glasses are so part of your look. I prefer the way I look with my glasses on. (I know, I'm weird!)
ReplyDeletePortia

It's a beautiful dress and the color is perfect on you!
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous! I'll bet everyone else felt under-dressed, not the other way around!
ReplyDeleteGarnet

ReplyDeleteWOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

Awesome dress! And it looks wonderful on you.

Oh wow, you look beautiful Gertie! This has to be my new favorite out of all your dresses. Amazing job!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing!! I love the dress, the color, and as lots of others said, it makes your tats look super cool! I would love for a pattern review, or your thoughts on sewing it up. I have the same vogue pattern and was thinking of switching out the pencil skirt for a full/gathered skirt.
ReplyDeleteMy God, THAT DRESS IS PERFECTION! Easily the best yet. I agree, others must have died when they discovered you made it. Thanks so much for showing it to us; love more details on the process. Jeff is a trooper!

ReplyDeleteStunning,wonderfully chic.
ReplyDeleteAmazing color, and fit !

Gertie, you look marvelous! Did the instructions from V1167 contain the boning instructions, or did you get them somewhere else?
ReplyDeleteI like the pattern without straps; I just found it on eBay, and plan to make a boned bodice to go strapless.
WOW!! Both you AND the dress are stunning!
ReplyDeleteGet Well Soon Jeff!
Wow! You look great! You + your tattoos + that dress = perfection!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Gertie! You look awesome!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!!! The color is perfect and your exquisite draping and shaping the satin are magnifique!
ReplyDeletelooks beautiful Gertie, great job!
ReplyDeleteVery stunning!! It doesn't matter if you were overdressed... I'm sure you blew everyone away! Hope Jeff feels better, too!
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! It turned out so well. I'd say with your glasses and all your beautiful ink, you totally fit the "creative black tie" profile! Especially since, HELLO! you created the dress yourself.
ReplyDeleteEven better than Jessica Rabbit!
Gorgeous. You rock.
ReplyDeleteThat is one drop-dead gorgeous dress...you did a fabulous job on it..sending get well wishes to Jeff..
ReplyDeleteThat dress is 'right' with or without glasses! GOOD JOB! You look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely, but like it better without the glasses. Poor Jeff. (It's going around, at least here in sunny Southern California.)
ReplyDeleter.
Such a fabulous dress, I especially love the bodice. The dress makes me want to host a party right now just to have an excuse to wear something like this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the well wishes guys! I'm still coughing like a maniac but I think it's running it's course.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that as good as these pics are they don't really do the dress justice. You should have seen it lit by candlelight in the middle of the Museum of Modern Art. It was perfect! Every other woman there was wondering why they were so underdressed.
Feel better Jeff! Absolutely beautiful dress! The color is just perfect! And its always better to be overdressed :)
ReplyDeleteget well Jeff.
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING dress. You look fabulous.
You look flawless!!! Kudos for such a beautiful looking ensemble. :) Do you think that you might be able to show us the inside of the dress? I'd love to see it.
ReplyDeleteAnd hey, it's always better to be overdressed than underdressed, so no biggie. :)
Alice.
Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGotta add my voice to the chorus: Feel better, Jeff!
OMG what an amazing gown! Yes, please more details... (new to your blog and what an intro).
ReplyDeleteA-M-A-Z-I-N-G dress. You look fabulous!
ReplyDeletewha? creative black tie? well now we know! I was hoping to see this dress, so thanks for posting. It's lovely, I am astonished that you sewed this with everything else going on, and yes that necklace is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteMy sister has gotten the invitation of a life-time. She gets to attend the Annual Whitehouse Correspondents Dinner in DC (the one where the the President does a comedy routine, then gets roasted, and gobs of famous people kill for invites)
And- she asked me to make her gown. I totally cannot wait!!
A corselette WILL be involved.
You look stunning!
ReplyDeleteWowee! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteYour gown is stunning. I love that dress. You did such a beautiful job!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Shows off the tattoos beautifully, too!
ReplyDeleteOhh! Long-time reader, first-time commenter. I always avoided commenting before because I felt like it would get lost in the shuffle of all your (obviously) adoring fans. However, you in this dress literally made me gasp out loud. The dress itself, your hair, your glasses, the lipstick...!! I could go on! You literally epitomize my ideal beauty.
ReplyDeleteHope that's not too weird!! Keep being awesome!
everyone else before me has already said it, but that doesn't stop me from saying it again: STUNNING dress!
