Readers, last week I reached a little blog milestone: 2,000 lovely followers! I admit that it was quite exhilarating for me to see that figure. When I started this blog, I didn't dream of such numbers. I've never really understood what people meant when they say they're humbled by praise or success, but I think I do now. Like that guy in Spiderman said, "With many blog followers comes great responsibility" (or something along those lines). Your support has made me want to be a better writer, a better seamstress, and a better teacher to those learning how to sew.
To thank you, I wanted to have an extra special giveaway to celebrate. After reading all the comments on yesterday's bra post, it really struck me how hard it is to find a well-fitting foundation garment! Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to make the perfect longline bra for yourself? So I'm giving away a copy of the book Making Beautiful Bras by Lee-Ann Burgess. There are a couple bra-making guides out there, and this is the one most recommended for beginners and home seamstresses. Plus, the book covers cloning a bra you already have (but making it fit better!), as well as longline bras, my personal favorite. It looks like a very special treat of a book for anyone interested in trying their hand at bra-making. I always like my giveaway prizes to be something that I'm coveting myself and right now this is high on my wish list!
To enter to win Making Beautiful Bras, please just leave a comment on this post before midnight EST on Tuesday, November 16th. Readers from all countries are welcome to enter. (The book will need to be shipped from Australia, so it might just take a while depending on where you are!)
Thanks for reading!
Hello Gertie,
ReplyDeleteI would like to enter your giveaway! I've been thinking about making bras for some time now and this would be the perfect opportunity :-)
And btw I love to read your blog!
I probably won't win since I'm number 1 but I just wanted to say you totally deserve the many followers. Your blog is great and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteHi Gertie,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 2000+ followers :)
Your blog is such a pleasure to read, it adds a little bit of fun into my day!
Wow!!! over 2000 !!! Congratulation and thanks for this chance to win
ReplyDeleteI learned to sew by taking lessons from a seamstress when I was 12. I would never have imagined that I am learning even more, 40 years later, from a blog. You are a very good teacher and an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. As a follower since the early hundreds, it's been so lovely seeing you grow and grow in success and spreading the good sewing!
ReplyDeleteThe bra book is intriguing. Will any workaday sewing machine (like mine) do, or does one need something more fancy (and possibly an overlocker) to make underwear and bras?
Wow 2,000 followers! Congratulations on all your success. I enjoyed your post on longlines--I need to find one with underwires (or rebar!). thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win that! I also LOVE your blog. I read it every single day!
ReplyDeleteThe Bra book is fantastic! I own it and have made a bra - unfortunately not one cloned from my own bra but in kit form - my cup size. They are fun to make and there is an amazing choice of fabrics and trims to use. I love the idea of making a long-line bra.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried to make a bra but as I've tried to make almost every other garment I might wear I'd love to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gertie, I am sure it won't take long until that number says 3000. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to take part in this give away. Making undergarments would take my sewing to the next level.
Thanks for being such an inspiration.
I'd love a copy of the book. Congrats on the followers
ReplyDeletecongratulations. I daresay I could make use of that book!
ReplyDeleteSince the way I found your blog was by googling the phrase "bullet bra pattern", I think this is giveaway kismet! Thanks for being the Mary Poppins of the online sewing community-"practically perfect in every way!"
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I actually saw you on Sew Hip reviewing a Colette pattern before discovering your blog. xx
ReplyDeletecongrats on 2000! I've been reading for ages and LOVE your blog! :)
ReplyDeletehi gertie,
ReplyDeletethis seems like a really interesting sewing subject... i haven't really thought about sewing my own underwear yet, but it could be interesting since lingerie shopping trips tend to be very frustrating for me!
Hello Gertie,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for putting up with our sometimes repetitive comments/questions. And congratulations for your milestone. You write a high quality content that pushes me to learn, read, and be better.
And I'd LOVE to get the book, so
COUNT ME IN
You are an inspiration-plus where else could I go to find suggestions for era appropriate "unmentionables"? Congratulations on 2,000-and here's to the next thousand!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on reaching 2000, Gertie! Your blog is always so inspiring and empowering. Brings joy to my day!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so great! I recently found a book on corset making at a local used book store but had to leave it behind as it was $60. :( So please enter me!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Your blog is always so interesting and helpful it is no surprise you have reached 2,000.
ReplyDeleteHurrah for 2000 followers! Congratulations Gertie--you definitely deserve it. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, please enter me in the giveaway! I have been dying to copy a beautiful, European bra I've had for years (and is now falling apart), but haven't taken the time to figure out yet. I'd love to finally get around to it! ;)
♥ Casey | blog
oh, this is one I really need..... Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! I share your blog all the time, thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I have been searching for a blog or something to share onhow to make bras, this is perfect!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely enter me into this giveaway, thanks!!
Thanks so much for showing us this book - it's now on my wishlist too! You do such a fabulous job with your blog and I know it won't take very long at all for you to double that number!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I always save your blog for last on my list because it's such a positive and thought-provoking read. Thank you for the time and effort you put in. And I'd love to enter the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations on the big 2000. I love sewing books and I love bras so please enter me for the giveaway! Jane x
ReplyDeleteHellooo! Love your blog, cant wait for the book! xx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 2000! I don't think i'd ever buy a pattern or book about making myself undergarments, since i sew for my kids & others first; but if I win, I know i'd use it!!!
ReplyDeleteHi gertie - I loved the post on longline bras. they seem to be near impossible to find here in the UK though!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to make something from this book - I might go ahead and add it to my wishlist anyway.
Great blog by the way - I read all the time but never post! xxx
What a great idea! I'm a faithful follower and think you're doing a fantastic job. I look forward to reading your thoughts daily. Congrats and keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHello Gertie!
ReplyDeleteJust like to say hello (and enter the contest for the book). I've been gathering a few bra making books but it's so hard to find out what's inside them. Your post post about longline bras has intrigued me, and it's definitely going to be something I try in my attempt to find comfortable underwear!
Also, I am absolutely loving your blog, thank you, it's helping me a lot!
Regards,
Cheryl
As it so happens, I am taking a course in desous-making next weekend, so this would be totally great to have for all the bra-sewing I see in my future. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on your 2000 followers, of course! What a great success!
Hello, and congratulations! Though its no wonder to me that your blog has so many followers. Thanks to you I've fallen in love with lapped zippers and have discovered many a sewing secret. Thank you very much for all the information. The book looks like a real treat.
ReplyDeleteI'm not at all surprised you have 2.000 followers - your blog is seriously one of my favourites, it is inspiring, thought provoking and entertaining all at once. Wishing you many more followers and success in all your undertakings!
ReplyDeleteWow, didn't know that book existed. I want ::)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on hitting 2,000! I, for one, have really enjoyed reading your blog. I'd love to enter the giveaway. I've made an early 1940s reproduction bra, but I'd really like to try my hand at something a bit more structured. This looks like it would be a great reference! (Fingers crossed)
ReplyDeleteHow perfect -- I've been looking for books to get me started on sewing lingerie. It'd be nice to be able to make my own bras since it's so hard to find ones at the store that fit me perfectly. I'll have to look this one up and read the reviews.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on 2,000 followers!
I've gotten addicted to reading your blog every day, even though I'm not a vintage-style-wearing person myself. Reading about your sewing actually induces feelings of nostalgia, remembering the sewing my mother and sisters were doing when I was a kid and all the old patterns we had. Congrats on your success with the blog!
ReplyDelete(But are you ever going to finish making all the patterns in the Vogue book? :))
What a lovely book. If I don't win I may just have to buy a copy of this book!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway! Congratulations on your blog and book deal success. To quote the Virginia Slim commercials of the '80s "You've come a long way baby!" I love to read your blog. It is truly inspirational. I found it in 2008 when you did a post for Burda Style. Now 'Gerie's New Blog for Better Sewing' is the first stop of the morning for me, enjoyed with a cup of coffee. Salute`
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on the 2,000 followers... it is obviously well deserved. I have been searching for a good bra making book for a while. Now I know exactely which one to try to find!
ReplyDeleteOoo what an interesting looking book! And congrats on the 2000 followers!
ReplyDeleteDiscovering the right bra is a bit of a miracle - making one might be a revelation! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 2K! I would LOVE this book. I have the hardest time finding bras in my size and have wanted for a while to try making some.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the milestone! You do beautiful work and you’re consistently inspiring, so I'm not at all surprised people are catching on.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the followers, but really, you should not be so surprised! You're an excellent writer, and always have such good advice for your readers.
ReplyDeleteAnd as a rather busty, small framed girl, that book looks awesome. I've wanted to get into bra making, but have just no idea where to start. That could help me out a lot!
I am not surprised at all of your followers- your post are awesome! It is so generous of you to take the time to do the sew-along tutorials with so much detail!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a bright spot in my day. Congratulations on your success and thanks for all the work you put in to make it possible. I'd LOVE to win this book.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Gertie and thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteHello Gertie,
ReplyDeleteFirst, thank you very much for this blog, you are helpful for many homeseamstress. I would like to enter your giveaway because I would like to try bra sewing because it is difficult to me to find bras that fits me well and I love to sew with fine materials like silk, satin and lace.
Yay! Win or lose, I can add another sewing book to my wish list.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Spectacular! I'm so on this one!
ReplyDeleteBisous!
ooo yes please! and congratulations! and thank you for everything!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 2000+ followers and thanks for the giveaway! (and great blog)
ReplyDeleteoh! me me me me! I've toyed with the idea of making bras for AGES ever since GapBody discontinued the BEST no-underwire bra ever built.
ReplyDeletePlus, since I haven't even finished my Lady Grey yet, it totally makes sense to start thinking about another project! :D
(heading into the city today to buy some flannel for interlining. I sat around the other day with the lining and outer material wrapped around me, and I think I want it just a touch warmer)
Congrats on the 2000 followers! ialways look forward to seeing what you're thinking/writing about. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeletethat looks like an interesting book. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog for some time now and really enjoy it. Your enthusiasm is quite catching! Thanks for sharing your sewing with us.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a wonderful gift! I have tried my hand at bra making with frustrating results. I wear a 34G which is nearly impossible to find and especially one that is pretty. My husband has been very patiently waiting for me to find one. I don't think I've had a pretty bra since I was a teenager!
ReplyDeleteAs for followers, I bet that they will grow exponentially from this point on, you'll need staff to keep up with emails and comments:) You'll start saying things like,"I'll have my people call your people". Congratulations!
Congratulations! Your such a good seamstress that it would be a shame to sew and not follow you because you give away all those little tips that helps me improve my creations !
ReplyDeleteWow, competition here is tough and I'm just a lurker. However, it is my 45th birthday today and well... I need a lot of support in *those* areas! Pick me, pick me!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE this book! I've made a couple of bras in my time but never quite found that elusive perfect fit...
ReplyDeleteI did have a thought about making my own longline after yesterday's post. Congratulations for your following - 2K and growing strong!
ReplyDeleteI'm a realtively new reader, but I have read through lots and lots of your previous posts. I just love the way you explain things, I find it very easy to follow your instructions. I'm really excited about the Crepe Dress sew-along. Thank you for being such an inspriation. :)
ReplyDeleteWow Gertie this is an amazing giveaway. I've been wanting to make bras for ages as due to my size they are quite expensive. Even if I don't win I now have a reference to buy at some point.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Really, sewing a bra? I can hardly imagine it. But I'd give it a try with this books help. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 2000 followers! Although it's not surprising... you have a great blog! Anyways... sign me up for the bra-making giveaway. That sure would come in handy... I have such trouble finding one that fits well and is comfortable! LOL...
ReplyDeletePlease enter me in your contest; I would love to win this book as I do have a hard time finding the perfect bra and would love to make one!
ReplyDeleteIt is funny, i never really considered that having more followers would be humbling, but i can see what you mean. You do have a responsibility to your readers which is great, as it provides motivation to keep going. You are doing a great job!!
ReplyDelete2000! congratulations! that's like a huge milestone in the blogosphere, but it comes to me as no surprise because your blog IS SO AMAZING!! you really are an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteand regarding bras, I never could get any bra to fit quite right, so if I make it myself I might even find the perfect fit!
Oh Gertie - count me in!! I need this book :-)
ReplyDeletei really like the idea of making my own bras... not because i'm a super hard size to find/fit (i mean, i can still shop at victoria's secret), but bc either my size is super common or super uncommon to the point where all that is ever left are boring nudes and blacks :( WAAAHH hahaha
ReplyDeletegreat giveaway! you are the greatest - i'm honestly surprised you don't have more than 2000 followers. your blog is so helpful and educational... not to mention fun to read :)
So excited for the sew along next month! Love what you're doing here and what a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI took a bra making course and it was one of the best investments I ever made! I would love to be entered in your draw, so wonderful of you to hold this! Plus, it's my birthday tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteHey Gertie!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congrats on the 2000th follower! It just goes to show how awesome your blog really is.
I have an exam coming up which is prompting a series of shitty days/weeks, but coming here to read your blog always puts me in a good mood (and encourages me to work on my sewing skills). I am so looking forward to you walking me through the Crepe sew-along!
The book sounds totally awesome (like many others I have a hard time finding bras that fit!).
Yes PLEASE. I wear a ridiculous cup size and I've thought "how nice it would be..." to have some CHOICES in my bra wardrobe, not to mention just *having* a bra wardrobe at all.
ReplyDeletePleassse, I promise to give the book a good home and hug it tightly to my bosom.
Congratulations! I'm thrilled with the 31 people following my little blog...I can't imagine how it must feel to have over 2000 people hanging on your every word. I'm happy to be one of your followers!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the 2,000 followers.and id love a copy of that book.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the followers!
ReplyDeleteOn a more boobies related note, I've only been able to find one bra in my freaking life that fits me comfortably, and it's sold out 90% of the time. It's frustrating! I'd love to be able to make my own, so I promise I could give this book a great home :D
Oh my gosh, if I don't win this, I might have to buy it anyway. I've been searching for a good longline bra for ages, but none of them seem to fit well. But duh, I could make one! AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteYou totally deserve this many followers, your blog is excellent and your tutorials extremely useful even to someone who has sewn more than half her life.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a bra but it sounds interesting and I'm a peculiar shape, so count me in!
Great idea for a giveaway! My nonPlaytex cross-my-heart hopes to win.
ReplyDeleteHello! Just started reading your blog a couple of days ago, and already there's a giveaway! I think this means you're awesome.
ReplyDeleteThank you for one of the absolute best sewing blogs out there! You have been an inspiration many times over.
ReplyDeleteI have made one bra, and after your last post I am convinced that sewing a longline bra may be my most comfortable option (since even a boned corset is more comfortable to me than most bras). I have been salivating over this book for a long while now. Thank you for putting it up as a prize!
I love your blog Gertie and I love bras, too!
ReplyDeleteI would like to enter, I find it ironic since we have the same first name, but I enjoy the blog. Keep up the good work, and congrats on the book!
ReplyDeleteGertrude
Congratulations on 2000 followers! I'm having a party when I get to 100...I can only imagine...please enter me in the drawing for the bra book as that is on my to do list! Thanks for a great blog!
ReplyDeletecongrats honey! I just adore your blog and tell all my sewing friends about it. <3
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. The Rago waist cincher is on my list of "must have" especially with holiday parties coming up! Thanks for all the great sewing tips (learned so much with the Lady Gray Sew along) and especially thanks for all the giggles along the way. Congrats! on 2000 plus followers!!
ReplyDeleteI've never made a bra. Would love to try it.
ReplyDeleteLove keeping up with your blog on FaceBook.
ReplyDeleteDearest Gertie, after browsing thru all the comments, I hope you can see that we are all so happy for you and see your accomplishments as a benefit for all sewers. That said, bra sewing is like the ultimate challenge to me. I do currently alter ready to wear but beyond that I have been stalled. I know who ever is lucky enough to win this give-away will be thrilled. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 2000+ followers... thanks for all the great sewing tips and tutorials as well as the Lady Gray Sew Along. The Rago Waist Cincher is a must have especially for upcoming holiday parties! And most of all thanks for all the giggles following your blog has given me.
ReplyDeleteYay! 2000 followers!
ReplyDeleteYay! Giveaway! I haven't had a properly fitting bra in years. I mostly just wear sports bras or camis with built-in shelf bras. I'm very intrigued by this discussion of longline bras!
Congrats on the 2000+ followers. Love the great sewing tips and tutorials I learned so much with the Lady Gray Sew Along. Thanks so much for all the little giggles following your blog has given me. FYI: Rego Waist Cincher on my list of "must haves" especially for upcoming holiday parties!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try my hand at making my own bras. Count me in!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway. I've been wanting to start making bras for a couple of years. This would give me the push I need to actually get started!
ReplyDeleteDude, I now think I need a superheroine-esque silver satin bra and panties set, too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Gertie! Congrats on the 2000+! I've been following you for a bit over a year, and you have been hugely inspiring to me! Even if I don't win the giveaway, I think it's a book that's going straight on to my wishlist anyways!
ReplyDeleteyou have the greatest idea. Yes, I want to make my perfect bra, for some time now. I've had a try at it but it's in the back drawer, waaay back :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gertie! Building a bra that fits is my next project! This book sounds great if it talks about Longlines, does it talk about strapless too? its the specialty bras that are hard to find info on!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this book! Thanks for a fabulous blog!
ReplyDeleteHello Gertie,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 2,000 followers! Your blog is awesome I love following along.
I have always wanted to make a bra, this book looks very interesting and very helpful.

Please enter me in the draw! I've been following your blog for a while, and am not surprised you've reached 2000 followers, it's always interesting and useful to read. I've made one bra so far (much easier than you might think, and yes, you only need a normal sewing machine with a zigzag stitch) and would like to take it further
ReplyDeleteSo many congrats!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to enter the giveaway, too, as this is something I want to learn to do :)
Hi Gertie, congratulations on your milestone, not surprised you have so many followers you have a great blog which i,ve learnt so much from. I,ve made panties would love to have a go making a bra so count me in.

Hi Gertie, Thank you so much for the chance to win. Congratulations on reaching 2000. Your blog is wonderful to read and very informative. Best regards, Leigh
ReplyDeleteI've long dreamed of making my own bras, but it's daunting. This book sounds like it'd be really helpful for getting started!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Gertie. I love your blog both for what you write and for the way you write it. I can't say it's my favorite sewing blog as I read so many good ones, but it's definitely in my top 3! And obviously I would love a copy of this book, even though the cover picture reminds me way too strongly of 80s erotica. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try to make a custom bra for myself, this looks like a great book! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOoo, how fantastic! I've been making cotton t-shirt undies for a while, but bra-making is a whole other ballpark (and a ballpark I would love to try my hand at!)
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on your very much deserved 2000 followers!
Congratulations! This book seems interesting!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gertie! I can only hope my blog gets half that one day!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the fab Work and I would love a chance at your giveaway please
Thanks
Stevie - Beebeesvintagedress
I would love to make my own bras! How terrific would that be to have a bra that fits perfectly?! Thank you for the chance to win a great book!
ReplyDeleteCongrats also on the number of followers! There's a reason why you have so many!! Love your blog!
Congrats! Your blog is one of my very favourites.
ReplyDeleteI have your last sew-along bookmarked (my sewing skills are not quite at the right level yet), and am considering joining the next one - it'll depend on whether my baby girl grants me any time to sew :-)
Congratulations on your 2000 followers!!! That is quite a milestone. I want to enter your giveway. I have been wanting to try out making lingerie.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I would love to enter your giveaway, that book looks wonderful!
ReplyDeletePlease pick me Gertie! I've tried everything, including the whole "professional bra fitting" bit, and have still never been absolutely thrilled with any bra I've ever owned. Like any other garment, I'm sure I can make a better one that I can buy (well, that I can reasonably afford, anyway).
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thank you so much for the time and effort you put into the Lady grey sew-along. I'm not finished yet, but I'm very close. That was my first time tailoring, I learned so much! I can already tell it's going to be the best coat I've ever owned!
Two thousand followers is something to celebrate - you wouldn't have them if this wasn't such a great source of information delivered in reader friendly packaging.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to attempt some foundation making, and that book looks like a good place to start.
Thank you for blogging! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on reaching 2000! Thank you for so generously sharing all your knowledge and enthusiasm.
ReplyDeleteWow; making my own bras might be the solution! My official size is easy to find, but I can't stand underwires. I bet my sister would be even more interested...most brands don't seem to believe that 32DDs exist!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! Having some one (or something) walk me through making my own bra would be amazing!
ReplyDeleteMaking a bra would be such an awesome challenge! Thank you for keeping such an informative, entertaining, and educational blog. Please enter me into this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI need to make a Bra - thanks for the info Gertie. And congrats on 2000 followers!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
ReplyDeleteI super-appreciate all the awesome tutorials and commentaries you write for all of us! Keep up the awesomeness :D
-Catherine
Congrats on your ton of followers! :) I'm really curious about this book, as it's so hard for me to find a bra that fits right. And nursing bras are even worse!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. I would much rather sew my own bras, than buy them at a store...I loathe bra shopping.
ReplyDeleteLeslie ~ dumbnessie@hotmail.com
What a lovely gift! Thank you Gertie for all the work you put into the blog. I love to read it!
ReplyDelete//Anna
Congratulations on the huge milestone Gertie! I've been teaching myself to sew for the past 8 months, and I was so happy when I found your blog! It's one of my trusted resources. And what a great giveaway...I do hope I win!
ReplyDeleteI have been struggling to obtain correct fitting bras. After reading information about proper fitting, I've come to understand why - stores only stock in limited "conventional" sizes, which is why most women assume the problem is with them, not with the store stock. It would be a pleasure and exciting to try my hand at a custom-fit bra. Please enter me in the giveaway and congrats on achieving another blog milestone!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Gertie! :) Your blog is a true inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI'm entering for the give away... *crosses fingers!*
Oh! Would love to win this - I'm such a hard to fit cup size and body shape! And I can't believe you ONLY have 2000 followers! I would have guessed way more; I'm constantly seeing your blog referred to.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love to be able to make my own bras!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first 2000. Being one of them means I'm lucky. Here's to your next 2000, to your book, and to you! You deserve a wide, wide, wide readership.
Oh I would love a copy of that book. I have made a few bras, but it's always good to read more about them.
ReplyDeleteYou have a fantastic blog, my favourite way to start the morning.
I'd love to give bra-making a shot!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gertie! Really, we should all be sending you a gift for your wonderful blog. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 2000 followers! You make beautiful pieces and are so inspiring - it isn't much of a surprise!
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog! Congrats on 2000 followers! Greetings from Germany!
ReplyDeleteI've never though about making my own bra, but why not give it a shot?! Thanks for the opportunity, and congratulations on your big milestone!
ReplyDeletetiffanynielsen at hotmail dot com
I love your blog! Congratulations on 2000 followers. Thank you for this chance to win - I've been dying to start making my own bras.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog! It's one of the few I follow on Facebook. I started reading it on the web and eventually added you to my FB account. Your blog has worthwhile info for even a seasoned seamstress. I love hearing your perspective on things. KUDOS!!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me happy to see that so many people enjoy your blog as much as I do. I bought Colette Patterns' Nutmeg set, have asked for a book on corset making for Christmas, and with this lovely book on bras, I'd never have to shop for undergarments again! Congratulations on the readership, and thanks for sharing the love with this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job and I hope to do a great job on my bra when I win this book:)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 2000--not surprising to any of your regular readers, I'm sure. And what a great giveaway--I keep thinking I should sew my own bras, but I've needed some direction... this would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try someday making my own bra. It will be great.
Let's see if I'm lucky!
Thank you
My comment is entered! I have to thank you again for inspiring me to get back to making my own clothing, helping me to believe that I am beautiful no matter what size I am and showing me how much fun dressing in retro style can be. I too, now notice that people pay attention to me differently when I wear a pretty dress versus my regular dress pants.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on reaching 2000! Also, lovely giveaway idea, since I've moved and am now far far away from my favourite lingerie store.
ReplyDeleteOH MY!!!! I want to win! It's always hard or expensive to find bras my side and I've been apprehensive to try and make my own ..... This would be the push I need :3
ReplyDeleteHi Gertie!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog, but so glad I've discovered it. It has inspired me to start sewing again after about a one year hiatus. Congrats on the 2000 readers! As someone with a rather ample, hard to fit bosom, this book sounds like something I could definitely make use of! I look forward to reading more of this blog in the future.
What a great giveaway!! I've been really interested in making my own bras for some time and this sounds like a great resource!
ReplyDeletecongrats on 2000 followers :)
Congratulations!! ^_^ Your blog is really great, I love your writing and the fact that you talk about so many different things that are really usefull and interesting to us home sewers and vintage lovers. I'm always happy to see a new post from you on my reader, you're one of those I always read right away.
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a nice giveaway! Please count me in. I have a hard time finding bras that fit so I'm really thinking about making some. Plus I'd love to try longline bras, but I've never seen any in my size.
Hey Gertie!
ReplyDeleteI would love to enter your giveaway! Making your own bra is something I never really thought about. You did convince me however to get my first longline bra.
Make my own bras... an excuse to buy more sumptuous fabrics?? sign me up!
ReplyDeletecongrats on your 2000 followers, too!
what a treat to be able to make your own bra!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant prize. Unfortunately I often don't pay attention to undergarments so this would definitely encourage me.
ReplyDeleteEvery morning when I get up I check to see if you have posted anything new. I love seeing your new projects and wonderful vintage style. You blog has really inspired my sewing, and has made me realize that using quality materials will make a difference. I would love to make my own bras especially a long line!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Gertie! 2000 is an achievement! you are a great seamstress, and writer, and you inspired me to take a City & Guilds in dressmaking to learn more. So Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 2000 - I've learned a ton from your blog and been inspired to learn MORE MORE MORE. Your posts combine a great mix of both "the student" and "the teacher" perspectives. I think it makes your blog accessible to less accomplished sewists (me) while retaining the interest of the more advanced. Good work! (And, can't wait for the book)
ReplyDeleteEnter me in your giveaway. Congrats on reaching your 2K milestone!

Congratulations on 2000+ followers. Bras are such fun to make, I have made a few from patterns, but I would dearly love a book to learn properly from.
ReplyDeleteAmazing effort- that number of followers is more than the population of my town! I would love that book, thanks for the chance

ReplyDeleteOoh! This would be fabulous, since I am a rather non-existent size. I love following your blog!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fantastic book! I have a lot of trouble finding bras to fit (very few shops make my size!) so making my own is very appealing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway, I have always wanted to attempt to make myself undergarments but I haven't had the nerve yet : )
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, loving your blog and looking forward to your book!

Wow! With 2,000 followers (congratulations) I have very little chance of winning such a lovely book. Not that that will stop me entering to win.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! Congrats too.
ReplyDeleteAs a 38DD, making a decent bra for myself would be heaven, so my fingers (and toes) are crossed!

I do appreciate how you always stress good fitting foundations. it's something that I believe in and it really is important to breast health, and unfortunately some of the stores that have limited stock think it's okay to put a 34GG in a 38 DDD, so I have to wonder how many laddies out there are wearing the wrong size bra.
Congrats on 2000! It shouldn't surprise you so much.
ReplyDeleteYay! I've tried making my own bra before. The one I hand sewed as a muslin (and without the underwires) ended up way better than my "real" try. And neither of them were all that great. I'd love some help with sewing a bra that actually fits correctly!
