Oooh, you readers are lucky today! The fabulous and thoughtful Denise of The Blue Gardenia came to me with a giveaway idea that was so good, I wish I could win it myself. The prize is a double-whammy of vintage glamour: a Julie Hewett lipstick and this very Mad Men vintage pattern.
The pattern is Advance 3446, bust 34", still in factory folds. I love the classic-but-sexy lines of the simple sheath and cropped jacket.
And to complete your look! A Julie Hewett lipstick in Belle Noir, a summery coral red. Why have I never heard of this line until now?! Julie Hewett was the makeup artist on the film Pearl Harbor, and she was inspired by the 1940s looks to create the perfect line of highly-pigmented, long-lasting red lipsticks. These lipsticks get rave reviews, and this particular coral red is supposedly the "Grace Kelly of lipsticks." In other words, I know you want it.
So to win both of these fab goodies, just leave a comment on this post by midnight EST on this Saturday, June 19th. Readers from all locations are eligible. I'll announce the winner on Sunday.
A big, huge thanks to Denise of the The Blue Gardenia for sponsoring this fantastic giveaway! Everyone now: THANKS, DENISE!

ReplyDeleteGertie, I have been following your blog religiously since I found it a few weeks ago. I have been hesitant to post comments b/c I am a beginning seamstress, so much so that even calling myself "seamstress" feels silly. But, with that lipstick and beautiful sheath pattern, you have yanked me out of my shell. Thank you so much for your entertaining and educational posts and thanks to Blue Gardenia as well. (I tried to post a couple of minutes ago and didn't get through, so I hope that this doesn't come up as a double post; those are annoying)

ReplyDeleteSometimes I'm bummed when the newest GNBfBS post isn't you dispensing fabulous sewing advice (sometimes just snippets when you discuss how you construct a piece). I mean I know it is hard to keep churning out that level of content constantly... Anyway, yup, I want it :) Gah. This sounds more critical than I meant it. Thanks for knowing your audience.

ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I think those pattern illustrations always lead me to believe that the dresses are pegged but when you look at the line drawings it is always a straight pencil skirt. : ) Must be the way they are standing. Er, drawn.

ReplyDeleteGreat Giveaway!
Eee! Adding my comment, crossing my fingers...
ReplyDeleteI am a long-time lover of red lipstick. My original? Chanel Star Red. Yummy. But I'm always on the lookout for a new red...and a red that lasts! plus the pattern...though I usually stay in the 30s and 40s, I've had a recent fascination with the early 60s...unfortunately, I've had trouble with fit issues using those patterns (I'm sure it's an issue of having the wrong undergarments, but I'm simply not going to cinch myself in that much). But this being a "Beginner's Pattern," maybe I'll have a fighting chance to fix those issues.
ReplyDeleteMust say I never commented on your blog before even tho I read it daily and have done so a couple of months. I must say I absolutely ADORE it! It's the perfect combo about sewing and vintage fashion! It has inspired me to take a new look at both my sewingmashine and my wardrobe. I'm acctually making a red gingham tafletta skirt as we speak ;D <3
ReplyDeleteThanks to you both! I 'm gonna to try my luck!

ReplyDeleteI only recently found your blog (and what a find!) and have been enjoying it. I am not confident that I am a good enough seamstress to do this pattern justice, but I would love to have the chance to try-- and to learn! I have the perfect olive green vintage silk.... And the lipstick is such a luxurious add-on!
Thanks (also to Blue Gardenia) for a lovely giveaway!
Thanks Gertie and thanks Denise! Its funny, as a capital city, Hobart Tasmania is a SMALL town. I have recently been wearing beautiful vintage inspired clothing which I have sewn from vintage patterns, and I've been getting some very funny side long glances from the general population. Not only does your blog provide me with huge amounts of sewing inspiration, but it is also reassuring to me to know that there other people out there who share my love of vintage and sewing and who aren't afraid to show it. I admire that so much.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog after watching your tutorial on hemming circle skirts. Thanks for the insight.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, both of 'em! And while I'm nowhere near the right size for that pattern, my sister is and it'd look fab on her. So thanks for the giveaway, even (as is likely) I don't win it!
