I agree with all of the pieces that you mentioned in the Burda article. Like you, I enjoy vintage styles, but don't want to look like I'm in a costume.
I don't mind looking a little costume-y, but maybe that's just my taste! I do agree that these make for some basic and very versatile pieces. I'm still looking for a portrait blouse pattern though - I can't seem to find any modern equivalents (or even vintage copies).

Your mention of the sheath dress with the self-fabric belt (FAB-ulous, btw) sparked a supplies question. It looks like the buckle is also self-covered, do you have a reliable source for fabric-covered buckle kits? They seem to be getting as rare as hen's teeth these days, and I've only got a couple that I snagged at thrift stores, and one that my mom found for me somewhere. Any suggestions?
Wonderful post. Mine is a 1952 wrap dress with flared skirt and cap sleeves, works wonderful even now. They were "housedresses", but in today's relaxed society, w ork well in most day situations. They are also forgiving on the fuller figure, especially after pregnancy.

I hear you Miss Emmi - I REALLY want the portrait blouse pattern as well. Surely some talented person can draft a pattern up....?
