This is the Peter Pan collar variation of the bow-tied blouse from Vogue's New Book for Better Sewing. It wasn't included in the book as a bonus project, but I thought it was so cute that I had to make it. The fabric is a wool and angora blend jersey from B&J, and it's so soft and cuddly. I don't especially love working with knits, but you just can't deny how comfy they are. Perfect for winter days in the office!
I rocked the bound buttonholes once again, using the strip method, which has become my tried and true technique. The blouse bunches a bit above my waistband, and I'm not really sure what to do about that.
Anyway, I continue to be in love with this pattern. I just adore both versions, and you'll defintiely be seeing each of them again!
It's really nice. I especially like that it's cut in one piece, and that the fit is so good even though the cut is so very simple.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that blue colour.
gorgeous, such a wonderful color!
ReplyDeleteTold you mojo was just on vacation! ;)
ReplyDeleteAnother great version!
ReplyDeleteLove your top... it looks great! Glad your happy with your buttonholes!
ReplyDeleteHave you posted about your bound buttonholes? I'd love to know your secret.
ReplyDeleteKMQ, I use the method outlined in Issue 140 of Threads magazine. You can order back issues on their website. I totally recommend it! I want to do a video tutorial at some point, but first I have to get a video camera. :)
ReplyDeleteGertie, that is adorable!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!! Can I just say how darn cute your hair looks that way? I noticied it a few posts ago and kept forgetting to ask how you did it. Do you braid and then wrap it around your head or what?
ReplyDeleteOh I love that! The style, the color and the buttons up the back!
ReplyDeleteLove, love it!
ReplyDeletecheers!
ReplyDeletevery lovely done, the color is gorgeous and fits the pattern and style perfectly...
about the bunching.. i think that may be a) because it naturally is wider than the skirt and tries to glide upwards
b) because your back (pattern) is too long and you have to shorten it.
nonetheless, beautiful!
Thanks for the hair-do compliment, Melinda! It's very easy to do. Check out this link:

I use the "heidi braid for shorter hair" variation at the bottom.
That top is absolutely darling!
ReplyDeleteVery ladylike and lovely! I wish I could feel that fabric in person, it looks scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteTry tucking the blouse into a slip! Or maybe you could rock it as an overblouse and make a little belt to wear over it so you still get the waist definition. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning, love the color and those buttons are to die for.

You are gorgeous. And so is the blouse. Great!
ReplyDeleteOh, I adore it! I so need to find a pattern like this!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful. It looks like the bound buttonholes are even nicer on this top than the last one. Brava!
ReplyDeleteoooooooh i love this.
ReplyDeleteWow! that looks wonderful Gertie! you have done a terrific job. The bunching around the waist can be rectified by slightly altering your back pattern pieces, easy fixed!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this!! Great job!!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that is the perfect little blouse for this time of year, in a lovely autumnal color! Yum!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing - loving the blue, and the peter pan collar adds a really nice interest point.
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable. Love it.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Gretchen. Sometimes we have to do things even when we don't feel like.
ReplyDeleteYour blouse is gorgeous.
Oh my, Gertie, it turned out smashing!!! The fabric looks absolutely heavenly--and sounds so luxurious. :) Bravo for finishing this up, despite the bad sewing mojo--sometimes it's worth pushing through! ;) (I had to preach this to myself all day yesterday--it seemed everything that could, did go wrong! :p)

I thought I was looking at a magazine picture when I first clicked on your blog today. That blouse is very professionally made and looks very classy.
ReplyDeleteGertie, you should use your publishing connections to write a book that includes these exact patterns with modern instructions. Seriously. You obviously have both the sewing/drafting know-how and the writing skills! I want to make every single thing you post, but I'm very intimidated by the vintage patterns. I think it's a great idea that all of your readers would go ga-ga over. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern! I'm still trying to find the book. Everything looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour peter pan collar looks very nice!!
ReplyDeleteYou look so sweet in your new blouse - It's lovely! And you're so brave to work with knits...
ReplyDeleteBTW, also love your collection of Black Apple Prints!
Hi Gertie,
ReplyDeleteI posted about this blouse and the other one you made on my blog today. Hope you like it.
