This post is in honor of my self-proclaimed National Honesty Month (I guess it's not really national, but it sounds catchier that way). This is Gertie Unplugged. No makeup, no dresses, no sewing machine.
My beloved cat Henry Higgins likes to sleep on my pillow. As soon as I turn off my bedside lamp, he pads up and curls himself around my head, as pictured above. In the moments before I fall asleep, I often think how lucky I am and I send a little thank you out to the universe.
Isn't it funny how the little things keep us going sometimes?
That hairy foot you see on the right is the other crucial part of me at my happiest: my funny, brilliant, adorable husband. And somewhere around there is the other beloved kitty, Pip. Again: aren't I the luckiest?
Anyway, I invite you all to share in National Honesty Month. When are you at your happiest? Is it at your sewing machine, or somewhere else?
It's neat getting to know the real you, not just the glamourized one. Maybe I'll do that on my blog, if I dare to be seen without makeup. I'll have to think about that awhile.
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky indeed. You have a lot to be thankful for - love!
Also, you look great with no makeup. You have good skin.
I am at my happiest when playing with my boys - my three young ones and my husband!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I will be honest and say I am too vain to pose without make up!!!!
Such lovely pictures! I am at my happiest when I have just finished cleaning my house and I can light some candles, open a bottle of wine and sit on my couch with the boyfriend and chat. Simple, but so fulfilling.
ReplyDeleteActually my happiest moments are quite similar to yours - when my horse Susi, which I guess most people wouldn't even consider as pretty, nuzzles my face, I can't help but feel happy and somewhat honored that such a beautiful creature seems to like me. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat Pictures! I think I am happiest when I am making order out of chaos. Like cleaning out closets and the attic. Finding the perfect organizational tool to suit the job ahhhh...heaven!
ReplyDeleteHenry Higgins? Like in "My Fair Lady?"
ReplyDeleteThat's my terriers name...hispic is on my blog!
That is so sunny that they have the same names!!
I don't even have to think about that question. My happiest moments are when I'm with my two little grandsons. They are everything to me.
ReplyDeleteYou look very happy and that is a beautiful cat!!!
ReplyDeleteSitting in front of a fire.
ReplyDeleteI had a woodstove in the kitchen at the farm. I'd sit in front of it in the morning, eating toast from home-made sourdough. That was pretty peak.
Very cute kitty! My Miss Nina is a fan of laying beside me with her head on the pillow, like a real human. I will miss her heaps while on my 3 month adventure! :-(
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. I have been unhappy lately and your post has made me realize all the things in my life that are happy-making. Your post touched me so much that I made one of my own on my blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pictures! It's like seeing you through the loving eyes of your husband. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOne of the times when I am happiest is when I am deeply absorbed in a creative project, whether art, sewing, even painting a room a new color, when I am actively making something with my hands, watching it come together-- happiness.
You have the most beautiful smile with that kitty on your head! Thank you for posting that picture, it made my day.
ReplyDeleteI am most happy sitting in the sun knitting, watching my kids play in the yard. Not so many days of that left.
Happiest? My husband and I just hanging out with our closest friends in the world. Being yourself, crabby or otherwise, laughing about old times and planning new adventures.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like the love of a cat.
ReplyDeleteSweet. Thanks for sharing these great photos. Some of my happiest moments each day are when I settle in to read in bed with a cat (or two). I encourage enthusiastic feline visits by doling out kitty cat treats which I keep on the bedstand.
ReplyDeleteDear Gertie, I have that bedlinen as well, and I I also have a grey cat (a Russian Blue) who likes to sleep on the pillow. Somehow I just felt it was important to tell you that.
